Barton Hill Festival (2017)
About the show
Barton Hill Festival is a celebratory family friendly festival of live performance, art, wellbeing and film which will take place on Sunday 29th October 2017 in Barton Hill, Bristol.
Travelling Light Theatre Company are delivering the Festival in partnership with Barton Hill Settlement and Up Our Street and the programme is packed with a range of performances, culturally diverse activities and food from around the world.
This is a festival curated for and by the people of Barton Hill. The 2nd festival forum will take place on Saturday 20th May from 11.30am - 2pm in the Travelling Light Studio at Barton Hill Settlement, following a successful first meeting on 27th April. The forums are a chance for local people to share ideas and suggestions that help shape the day, and to volunteer to get involved in the event.
We are delighted to announce that this, the first Barton Hill Festival, will be supported by The Big Lottery Fund’s Awards For All scheme, Bristol City Council’s Community Festival and Events Fund and Tesco Bags for Help. This support will go towards the exciting programme of events including: a professional play inspired by Barton Hill’s history, workshops for all ages including drama, craft, well-being, complimentary therapies, singing, music and dance, storytelling from around the world and a grande festival finale twilight lantern parade by local schools and artists.
Our Youth Theatre groups will all present work at the Festival. The 11 -13 and 14-19 youth theatre groups are already busy devising Hillstories, working with local community members who attend the Barton Hill Settlement lunch and bingo clubs to create a cross-generational piece of theatre that looks at the lives of local residents in Barton Hill. We are working with Wyldwood Arts on this project, who are experts at intergenerational community work. Hillstories is being created thanks to the generous support of the Youth Social Action Fund. Our Louder Than Words group will be creating a sensory exploration room for young people with additional needs which will play films created by group members with local film maker Camilla Adams.
There really is something for everyone, so this autumn why not join your local community for a fun and inspiring day celebrating the brilliantly diverse people of Barton Hill, Bristol.
Created and delivered by young people, community members and professional artists, Barton Hill Festival will run from 11am to 5pm on Sunday 29th October 2017.
