Shadow Play (2008)
About the show
Our 31st original production was inspired by the way children use play to discover and understand the world around them. It started as a research & development project in partnership with Take Art called Sticky Fingers and Toes, ultimately becoming a play with no words, focusing purely on the musical, visual and physical language of the story.
Using a white space as their starting point, four performers interact in inventive and curious ways to transform their surroundings. Objects appear and disappear; shadows are formed and develop a life of their own; the audience is charmed by the discoveries that are made and the world which is created in front of them.
A combination of mime, dance and comedy, and the ingenious use of the contrasts between light and dark, conspire to create exquisite, almost dreamlike scenarios that both tease and calm a spellbound audience… It's an uplifting, vivid celebration of life as a literal artwork, created live from a palette of rainbow colours.
