The Stones (2002, 2003)
About the show
Our 23rd production was based on the true story of two teenagers from Melbourne who were charged with manslaughter after kicking stones off a footbridge and killing a driver. The script was written by Tom Lycos and Stefo Nantsou of Zeal Theatre, whose original production was spotted by Jude Merrill at a festival in Vancouver. She asked for the rights, and the resulting play toured widely in 2002 and 2003. It was particularly popular with schools and school students, and is one of the most frequently requested plays for us to tour again.
We didn't mean to kill anyone. honest! Yahoo and Shy Boy aren't really bad lads, more mischief-makers. They break stuff, torment cats, throw stones.. But then a man dies, and the question is whether the boys are to blame. Because there's a big difference between mischief and manslaughter - isn't there?
